Fuel Skids, Dhuvaafaru Island, Maldives

Maldives’ FSM & STO 18 site public build programme specifies KPS Piping

Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu opened the first of 18 public Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM) / State Trading Organisation (STO) fuel skids (1 for each atoll) on Dhuvaafaru island on the 13th of December 2025, the Saturday following Fishermen’s Day. This build programme is part of an initiative to provide cheaper fuel to fishermen and is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2026.

KPS and their partnership with ECHOES Enterprises in the Maldives have proven to be highly successful and constructive. The State Trading Organization (STO) engaged KPS for their technical expertise in the design and implementation of our recent 18 fuel skid stations project.

The introduction of conductive KPS HDPE pipeline systems has been transformative for the fuel industry, and we are extremely satisfied with the level of professionalism, technical competence, and attention to detail demonstrated by both KPS and ECHOES teams.

KPS delivered exemplary results across the layout, installation, and testing phases of the pipeline systems, contributing significantly to the overall success of the project.

KPS’ highly-engineered piping is designed to make fuel flow safely with zero permeation
KPS’ conductive HDPE piping was specified for all 18 public fuel skids in the build programme
Protection of the environment, sea and wildlife was a key requirement for this project
KPS piping is far lighter than the carbon steel previously used

Key Requirements

  • Protection of the environment, sea and wildlife.
  • Corrosion-free piping, unlike the carbon steel piping previously used which was prone to corrosion, especially with the constant exposure to salt water at marinas and ports.
  • A long-term solution with minimal maintenance.
  • Fast, installer friendly piping.
  • Prompt delivery to complete the build ahead of the Presidential ceremony.
  • Conductive piping, mitigating static build-up.
  • Certified, experienced installers.
  • On site support and training.

The KPS Solution

  • KPS’ conductive HDPE piping proved the ideal solution for this project: 2” (75/63 mm) double wall piping to connect the fuel tank to the filling point, 2” (63 mm) single wall piping for dispensing lines from tank to the dispenser and 1” (32 mm) single wall line for vent lines.
  • Like metal piping, KPS’ conductive piping prevents electrostatic buildup, but is far lighter and impervious to corrosion from salt water.
  • ECHOES’ (DIESELINE’s parent company) experienced and KPS certified team installed the project ahead of schedule (key for the Presidential ceremony), assisted by KPS’ compact installer-friendly electrofusion fittings and KPS’ Oscar Garcia’s onsite support and training.
  • KPS piping is certified by EN 14125, EN 13163-1, ATEX 137 (directive 1999/92/EC) and other country specific certifications, and is proven to perform for the life of a site with minimal maintenance.
  • KPS’ highly-engineered piping is designed for safe fuel transfer with zero permeation.

KPS needs no introduction here in the Maldives, as the pipelines are so very well designed for the extremities of such a saline environment as ours. MS pipelines have been used traditionally, however, with inevitable rusting and subsequent ruptures resulting in many fuel leaks into the precious island water layers and has had very negative impacts on our delicate ecosystems.

Together with KPS’ patented conductivity throughout its pipelines, their HDPE piping provides the safest and most reliable pipelines for the Maldive Islands. It will prevail over any metal substitutes, any day. Our partnership with OPW/KPS has been very fruitful thus far, with KPS providing us with training, design knowledge of the products and licensing our staff for certified installations. We are excited for 2026 and beyond with OPW/KPS.
