Château de Verdelles specifies KPS remote fill system to protect historic site

Project Overview

In this project, KPS worked with the Château de Verdelles (France) to design and install a remote fill system for their diesel-powered central heating system to reduce the risk of damage to the iconic site during fuelling, either from the large refuelling truck itself, or spills/leaks during fuelling. A conductive double-wall piping system was required to protect the site and avoid the risk of electrostatic discharges.

Key Requirements

  • A new system to allow the diesel tank to be filled without having the truck near the building and for any spills or leaks to be collected and controlled at the remote filling point.
  • Protection of the historic Château.
  • A reliable, long term piping system.
  • A double wall system for extra security and leak detection.
  • Fast, simple installation.
  • Prevention of the risk of electrostatic discharges.

The KPS solution

  • A remote filling point 60 meters from the Château, connected to the diesel fuel tank with KPS conductive 2” (75/63 mm) double wall piping. This ensures that the tank can be filled without having the truck near the building and any spills or leaks can be collected and controlled at the remote filling point.
  • KPS 2” (75/63 mm) conductive double wall pipe was installed below ground. Using 60 meters coils, the number of welds and installation time was minimised.
  • A testable double wall system: KPS’ double wall piping has test ports in both sides of the pipe run. A leak detector can be connected to these test ports to control and monitor the interstitial space of the double wall and detect potential leaks in the line.
  • KPS conductive piping prevents buildup of electrostatic charges.
